El periodismo no es solo la forma más dinámica de comunicación en la sociedad, sino también, una activa fuerza ideológica que influye en la formación de ideas, de juicios y de opiniones. Por esta razón, cuando los periodistas argentinos decidieron tener su día, nacía una mirada sobre el rol político y social de la comunicación y sus actores.
Lo que se anhelaba era un marco ético acorde a la producción de noticias que, por entonces, era un negocio magnífico e impune de las corporaciones comunicacionales, amparado en protecciones y beneficios que se justificaban con el amparo de la libertad de expresión.
La pregunta clave hoy sigue siendo la misma: ¿son las empresas de medios de comunicación, como Clarín, La Nación, Infobae, entre otros, las que garantizan el derecho social a estar bien informado? ¿O esas corporaciones se amparan en la libertad de expresión para defender sus privilegios?
Una de las mentiras mejor instaladas es que los medios corporativos de comunicación en nuestro país son independientes de la realidad sobre la que operan. También lo dicen sus periodistas. Pero lo cierto es que está cada vez más a la vista que la verdad periodística para esos medios y sus periodistas, NO es la objetividad.
Respecto a esto, Pascual Serrano, periodista español, dice que el periodismo vigente y el rol de las corporaciones, “es la lucha de clases, y no la información, ni la objetividad, ni la neutralidad, la que determina el contenido de los medios de comunicación”. Señala, con absoluta certeza, que la clase social es “esa división proscrita en los medios de comunicación”. A si mismo explica que “un periodismo sometido a las reglas del mercado será un periodismo al servicio de la clase social mejor situada en ese mercado”. Serrano plantea un concepto muy potente para el debate actual: “En la medida en que estas empresas se adueñan de la oferta informativa de una sociedad podemos hablar de la sustitución de la libertad de expresión por el derecho a la censura en manos de una clase social”.
Los medios y los periodistas en las crisis siempre tienen un papel clave, y en ésta pandemia, resultan más que importantes. Son momentos para mostrar que pueden ser un bien al servicio de la comunidad, capaz de contribuir a la formación de una audiencia crítica y bien informada, de aumentar la cohesión social en vez de polarizar, de fragmentar, de desestabilizar.
No es necesario propiciar un nuevo “Leviatán” que marquen pautas éticas y morales al periodismo. Sino más bien cumplir con el documento final votado por los socios del FORO DE PERIODISMO ARGENTINO (FOPEA), en diciembre de 2020 y desde entonces es de carácter obligatorio para todos los integrantes para hacer un periodismo de calidad y con conciencia de país. Practicar la ética significa ejercer la autonomía, la independencia, la transparencia y la fuerza del relato.
